ATLANTA (AP) - Two children and a young man died this summer from a brain-eating amoeba that lives in water, health officials.
This month, a rare infection killed a 16-year-old girl in Florida who became ill after swimming, and a 9-year-old boy in Virginia, who died a week after he went fishing to day camp. The boy was wet with the first day of camp, his mother told the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
These cases are consistent with previous cases, which are usually the children - often boys - the bugs are exposed while swimming or do water in ponds or lakes warm.
